Clive Merrison reads Peter Grimes and Kika Markham reads The Rime of Ancient Mariner with music composed and performed by Sylvia Hallett, directed by Alys Kihl

These two epic poems share similar themes of isolation, retribution, injustice and the supernatural. Crabbe, described by Lord Byron as “nature’s sternest painter, yet the best”, draws on his harsh and impoverished childhood in Aldeburgh, whilst Coleridge influenced by opium uses nature, images and symbols to leave a lasting imprint on the hearts of all who encounter his mesmerising tale.
