Wonderful Beast is delighted to announce, that following on from the success of last year’s Storm of Stories the next one is currently being planned for 3- 6 April 2014. Last year the stories and events were linked to the sea, drawing inspirationalGossip from the Forest performances from members of the local community and a brilliant cast of international artists. The theme for the next festival is the forest, the primal landscape of so many legends, folk and fairy tales, which continues to haunt, excite and disturb. In Gossip from The Forest, author Sara Maitland argues that the two forms are intimately connected: “the mysterious secrets and silences, gifts and perils of the forests were both the background and the source of fairy tales.” Wonderful Beast will explore these entwining themes. It also aims to develop its work within the community, which was such a popular aspect of last year’s events. More details will be sent out in due course.

Wonderful Beast performs The Coat of Umpteen Pockets -  poems and songs for children by Adrian Mitchell

This popular touring show features Adrian’s daughter Sasha, Matt Prendergast and Alys Kihl who bring these funny, insightful, playful and beautiful poems to life. Each performer has a magical coat with ‘umpteen pockets’ out of which appear poems and songs to make children laugh, listen, dig deep into their imaginations and to sing.

“I loved your play. I liked all your poems. My favourites were ‘The Giant’ and ‘The Nose’.  I liked it when you said bum, it was funny because you said a rude word. The fat cat was funny because he ate lots of sausages.”
