January - July 2008

This project was the joint vision of Rachel Nightingale (arts and heritage officer of Suffolk Coastal District Council), Hayley Field (projects development officer of Suffolk Artlink Culture Club) and Alys Kihl artistic director of Wonderful Beast).  It was funded by Suffolk Coastal District Council, Suffolk County Council, Adnams and the Scarfe Charitable Trusts.

The material was linked to our touring production The Dead Moon, featuring smuggling stories, East Anglian folk tales and sea shanties. As the culmination of the project, over fifty participants and their carers attended a free performance of The Dead Moon at the Seckford Theatre, Woodbridge. This was a project with four elderly groups in day care centres in Woodbridge, Framlingham, Felixstowe and The Mary Warner Homes , Boyton. Three sessions for each group were structured so that the participants were encouraged to reminisce, join in discussions, sing and enjoy live music and storytelling.
